If your body is in need of a reset–and let’s face it, many of us are in need of a reset around this time of year–you may be on the lookout for a new purifying green juice recipe that will detox your system. If so, you’re in for a treat: our fresh, purifying Big Green Juice will not only tantalize your taste buds, but also cleanse and calm your digestive tract.

Health or hype: does green juice detox your body?

Before we get to the nitty gritty of our Big Green Juice, you may have questions about embarking upon a green juice cleanse. Juicing vegetables has become quite popular in recent years, despite the fact that many people report “fearing” the look of green juice (we still can’t get over this 2014 YouGov survey).

But do green juices actually cleanse your system?

Cleansing with green juice

When you do a juicing detox, this can mean you fast, replacing regular meals with cleansing juices for 2-3 days to allow your system to reset. Because raw, green, leafy vegetables are rich in antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients, green juices can provide the nutrition your body needs to stay balanced and manage blood sugar. When you consume vegetables in juice form, these nutrients are more easily absorbed into the bloodstream.

Some people prefer to skip fasting and instead pair a detox juice with a fiber-rich breakfast. Either way, drinking nutrient dense juice from raw vegetables and fruit will give you a much-needed, natural boost of energy.

What does green detox juice do?

You could argue that all green juices are detoxifying and cleansing in their own right. Not only does the juice of raw green vegetables provide much-needed nutrients, it also offers the best way to receive enzymes, the specialized proteins that create life within your cells through a variety of chemical reactions.

Drinking raw vegetables like celery, spinach, or kale also helps to flush toxins from your system, allowing your liver and you digestive system to take a rest.

Which juice is best for detox?

There are so many variations on cleansing, detox juices, and we love trying them all! The only limit is the imagination (and perhaps palate preferences).

That said, PURE’s Big Green Juice is ideal for a juice cleanse. Here’s what we love about each of its elements, which all contribute to a healthy detox:

The PURE Juicer sits behind an large, empty glass pitcher and jar of green juice, with two pure cloths filled with greens on the press plate. A bunch of romaine lettuce in the foreground.
Sliced lemons, cucumbers, celery, and ginger sit with three apples on a cutting board, ready to be made into detox juice.
  • Celery juice is a natural laxative and is amazing for digestion. Celery juice can help restore balance to a body suffering from an unhealthy lifestyle and food choices. It is high in calcium, silicon, and vitamin K, which helps strengthen bones.
  • Cucumber helps build stronger bones, helps with blood clotting, fights inflammation, is a natural anti-bacterial, helps to block cancer cell development and can help reduce the risks of cancer and heart disease.
  • Apples contain natural antioxidants, combat inflammation, and prevent heart disease.
  • Romaine Lettuce may not be high in fiber, but it is packed with calcium, phosphorous, magnesium, and potassium.
  • Ginger reduces pain and inflammation, stimulates circulation, and great for digestion (reduces gas).
  • Lemons contain natural antioxidants and will help fight cancer all over your body.

  6. Take cucumber and celery mash from strainer and wrap in a PURE cloth.
  7. Press.

  16. Mix cucumber-celery juice with apple-romaine-lemon-ginger-juice.

Pro tip: Don’t miss a single drop! Wrap your press cloths on a cutting board that can catch excess juice from the mash as you wrap, and pour the excess juice into your large pitcher.
