At PURE, we’re big fans of eliminating as much waste as possible, and we’re always on the lookout for new ways to use our leftover pulp. These 6 juice pulp recipes may surprise you!

Juice pulp: good for your skin

Perhaps this comes as no surprise to avid juicers, but juice pulp is oh-so-good for your skin. Whether you’re ingesting the pulp through a delicious recipe or smoothing it on your face, leftover pulp packs a powerful nutritional punch that will enhance your skincare routine.

Here’s one of our favorite skincare recipes:

Juice Pulp Cucumber Face Mask

When you’re in the mood for a refreshing cucumber mask, look no further than your own test kitchen. We like to take the pulp from our cucumber-apple juice and combine it with aloe vera, honey, and rose oil. Why cucumbers? Cucumbers are anti-inflammatory, full of anti-oxidants, and very hydrating. Not only that, when used topically, cucumbers can actually brighten and tone your skin.

This glorious mask has the consistency of a good mud mask, so we recommend you apply the mask, put your feet up, and sip on that delicious cold-pressed cucumber-apple juice.

Ingredients

• cucumber-apple pulp
• 2 tbsp aloe vera (from a leaf or aloe juice)
• 2 tbsp honey
• 3 drops rose oil

Directions

Mix cucumber-apple pulp with the aloe vera, honey, and rose oil in a bowl. For an extra-refreshing treat, refridgerate the mask for 5-10 minutes before applying.

Combine ingredients slowly. Alternately, get your kiddos involved and ask them to combine them quickly to see how many bubbles they can make!

Juice Pulp Wood Polish

Citric acid is also very effective when used as a wood polish. We used lemon rind, olive oil, vinegar, and a touch of lemon juice.

Ingredients

• lemon rind
• 1 cup olive oil
• ¼ cup of vinegar
• touch of lemon juice

Directions

Mix the ingredients together, and dip the edge of a microfiber cloth into the mixture. We recommend polishing with the grain of the wood, and going over the surface once more with a clean cloth.

Juice pulp: good for eating

Of course you can also eat fruit and veggie juice pulp! While we at PURE pride ourselves on the nutrient-dense juice our state-of-the-art juicer produces, we hate to waste the fiber-rich pulp when our bodies (and the bodies of our furry friends!) could put it to good use.

Dog Treats (and Human Treats)

These dog treats taste and smell so delicious, you may actually have trouble sharing them with your furry friend (they are human-friendly, too!)

Yield: two full cookie sheets of treats

Ingredients

• ½ cup apple sauce
• ¼ cup flaxseed soaked in water
• 1 cup gluten-free oats
• 2 bananas
• ¾ cup peanut butter
• ¼ cup  pumpkin (optional but great for digestion)
• 6 cups pulp: carrot-apple or carrot-apple-greens pulp broken into pieces

Directions

In a blender, combine all ingredients and blend until smooth. Add a little water if necessary. For chunkier treats, consider setting the pulp aside to blend the other ingredients, and, once smooth, blend in the pulp.

Spread a thin layer of the mixture onto a cookie sheet and back slowly at 150 degrees for 45 minutes. Flip the layer over and cook for another 45 minutes. Cut into small pieces and store in the freezer until use. You can also use cookie cutters (see adorable heart-shaped treats below) or a cookie scoop and bake the treats the same way.

Pro tip: if you want these for YOURSELF, try spreading almond butter on them for a little extra flavor.

Juice Pulp Tea: Immune Booster Tea

Our Immune Booster with Pineapple Juice, made with oranges, lemons, ginger-turmeric, and pineapple, is one of the best things we have ever made in our test kitchen. Because the juice tasted so good, we immediately began working on ideas for how to use the pulp in other delicious creations. Our favorite so far? Immune-Booster tea.

Directions

• Fill your tea filter with as much pulp as you can.
• Pour hot water into your teapot for steeping.
• Add a little fresh juice to tea and allow to steep for another two minutes.

Pro tip: add star anise, cinnamon, and cardamon for extra spice and sweeten to taste.

Of course, the options are unlimited when it comes to the kinds of tea you can prepare with your juice pulp. This one just happens to be our current favorite, especially as we head into cool fall evenings!
